Friends like these

November 30th, 2007

People can surprise you. It’s true. This week, life has taught me that
out of my doubts, I can find faith. Because just when I was starting to
give up on people, life has given me reasons not to. And I have nothing
but gratefulness in my heart. You know, it’s true that God never closes
a door without opening another and He stops people from locking the
door of their hearts by letting them see the beautiful view outside
through a window.

To a friend who’s been constantly there for me night and day
(literally), thank you for putting sense into my head just when I run
out of stock. For playing "angel" when I was on the verge to
indifference, reminding me not to lose the love I have for some people
just as many people haven’t lost their love for me.

To a friend who’s far yet so near, you never fail to make us
become a part of your life. From the petty things to the
pseudo-breakups with your huggable boyfriend, you make us feel
important with just a text message. And it never fails to amaze me how
the distance between us never got in the way of our growing friendship.

To a friend who would willingly cut class for a friend, thank
you for the "If you start sleeping around, kulatahon jud tika!" and
"Bantay jud ka if you become a lesbian (since I study in an all girls’
school), kulatahon jud ka naho!" threats. It’s just the perfect way of
showing your tender-brutal loving care. Thank you for being concerned, it
just shows how much you care and for always recognizing the blood that
binds us. I know I can always have a brother in you. Our conversation
on the ship was just what I needed.

To a friend who surprisingly opened up a part his life for me
to see, you are the biggest surprise to me this week. And for that
simple act of texting, confiding your problem, I was touched. Because
you were never the one who would share a story like that you’ve shared
and just when I thought nobody ever tells the truth anymore, you
candidly told me a new tale even without me asking.
